Jackie Fisher

John Arbuthnot Fisher, 1st Baron Fisher of Kilverstone (1841-1920), commonly known as "Jackie" Fisher, was a British admiral.

Fisher was born in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) to an English family, and joined the navy in 1854. He served in the China Wars[?] of 1859-1860, and later in the Egyptian War of 1882[?]. In 1892 he was created a lord of the admiralty, and in 1894 became First Sea Lord[?]. Following his retirement, he was recalled to this position during the First World War, after the forced resignation of Prince Louis Battenberg[?].

Admiral Fisher was a close personal friend of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
