Shoe fetishism

Footwear is sometimes associated with sexual fetishism, particularly in some recent fashions in shoes and boots. This is generally known as shoe fetishism.

Shoe fetishism commonly has elements of foot fetishism and leather or rubber fetishism.

Shoe fetishism in its milder forms merges into the mainstream culture; the vast range of women's shoes available in mainstream shoe shops, most of which are not designed for comfort, demonstrates that low-level shoe fetishism pervades mainstream Western culture, almost without being noticed.

One theory of shoe fetishism, as well as of foot fetishism, is that an infant's experience of their mother in many cultures may involve crawling around their feet. If sexual behavioral imprinting occurs during this time, it may lead to the feet or shoes becoming the primary object of arousal.
